The plants are tall, usually annual herbs, reaching a height of 2-4 m, unbranched or with only a few side branches. Their leaves are alternate, simple, lanceolate, 5-15 cm long, with an acuminate tip and a finely serrated or lobed margin.

Citrullus lanatus (watermelon) can be both the fruit and the plant of a vine-like plant originally from southern Africa, and is one of the most common types of melon. This flowering plant produces a special type of fruit known by botanists as a pepo, a berry which has a thick rind (exocarp) and fleshy center (mesocarp and endocarp).

Chenopodium album is a fast-growing weedy annual plant. It is extensively cultivated and consumed in Northern India as a food crop. It tends to grow upright at first, reaching heights of 10-150 cm (rarely to 3 m), but typically becomes recumbent after flowering (due to the weight of the foliage and seeds) unless supported by other plants.

Centella asiatica is a small herbaceous annual plant. Their stems are slender, creeping stolons, green to reddish green in color, interconnecting one plant to another. It has long-stalked, green, reniform leaves with rounded apices which have smooth texture with palmately netted veins.

Celosia argentea is a plant of tropical origin, and is known for its very bright colors. It is a tender annual that is often grown in gardens. Celosia argentea is propagated by seeds.

Cassia occidentalis is a small tree that grows 5–8 m high and is found in many tropical areas of South America, including the Amazon. It is an erect, annual herb or undershrub. Their seed pods are dark brown and curve slightly upward; the seeds are olive - brown and flattened on both ends.

Carthamus tinctorius is a highly branched, herbaceous, thistle-like annual, usually with many long sharp spines on the leaves. Plants are 30 to 150 cm tall with globular flower heads (capitula) and commonly, brilliant yellow, orange or red flowers which bloom in July.

Cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana, is a coarse, rangy annual that grows 6-12 ft in height. The leaves are palmately divided into 3-7 narrow, toothed segments, most about 3-6 in  long. The stems are rough and scabrous and the inner bark is fibrous.

Butea monosperma is a medium sized dry season-deciduous tree. The leaves are pinnate, The flowers are bright orange-red. The fruit is a pod 15–20 cm long and 4–5 cm broad.

Brassica nigra is an annual weedy plant cultivated for its seeds, which are commonly used as a spice. The spice is generally made from ground seeds of the plant, with the seed coats removed. The small (1 mm) seeds are hard and vary in color from dark brown to black.
