Family: Asparagaceae

Asparagus is a genus in the plant family Asparagaceae. The most well-known species is the edible Asparagus officinalis, commonly referred to as just asparagus. Other members of the genus are grown as ornamental plants. Species such as Asparagus setaceus are finely branched and are misleadingly known as "Asparagus Fern".

The Asparagus Fern is characterized by bushy, delicate lacy like foliage that looks very similar to asparagus, thus the name. It has trailing / climbing like stems radiating from the center. It is actually not a fern at all. It is an asparagus, therefore unlike other ferns; the Asparagus Fern prefers bright light and occasional dryness. The Asparagus Fern will look its best when used in a cascading appearance or hanging basket.

Asparagus Fern is a very beautiful house plant. This house plant can be split however you may need an axe. The root ball of this house plant can be a woody ball, therefore tough to break. You will need to trim / prune this plant in order to keep it under control and looking Asparagus Fern is best.
