Order: Asterales
Family: Asteraceae

Chrysanthemum is a perennial flowering plants. It is a native to Asia and northeastern Europe. Modern chrysanthemums are much more showy than their wild relatives. The flowers occur in various forms, and can be daisy-like, decorative, pompons or buttons. This genus contains many hybrids and thousands of cultivars developed for horticultural purposes. In addition to the traditional yellow, other colors are available, such as white, purple, and red. Generally the houseplants are around 30cm high, with single or double flowers.

Most Chrysanthemum are purchased as a disposable indoor flowering house plant. Enjoy the beautiful flowers during the four to six week period that they are flowering, then replace them with a new flowering plant. The Mums you see growing outdoors are an entirely different kind of Chrysanthemum called winter hardy fall mums.
