The disease is noticed on the midribs and veins of leaves, twigs and branches of mango as black valvety fungal growth. The incidence of disease is very low on the main branches.

Initially the lesions are minute, irregular, yellow to light brown, scattered over the leaf lamina. Fully developed spots are characterized by dark margins and dull grey necrotic centres. Under severe infection, infected leaves get defoliated. The disease can be effectively controlled by spraying copper oxychloride (0.3%) at fortnightly intervals.

Dieback

The young green twigs start withering first at the base and then extending outwards along the veins of leaf edges. The affected leaf turns brown and its margins roll upwards. Leaves scorch and fall, leaving a dead branch. In severe conditions, branches start drying one after another in a sequence, resulting in death of the whole tree.
