Order: Ericales Family: Lecythidaceae Common name: Kumbi, Gade, Gadila(Beng.); Kumbi(Eng.). Careya arborea is a deciduous tree, whose leaves turn red in the cold season and grows up to 15m high. Bark surface flaking in thin strips, fissured, dark grey; crown spreading. Leaves arranged spirally, often clustered at the apices of twigs, simple, broadly obovate, tapering at base, margin crenate-denticulate; stipules small, caducous. Flowers are yellow or white in colour and are like water-pots and produce large green berries. The tree grows all over India in forests and grasslands. |
