Colocasia esculenta is widely grown in the tropics for food and as an ornamental planting. The edible tubers are used in Poi and the young shoots are blanched and used as a winter vegetable. The plant will reach 3-7 feet (1-2 m) tall with leaf blades reaching up to 2 feet (60 cm) long. It need full sun to partial shade, with a rich, well-drained soil and abundant water.
