Curculigo orchioides is a perennial herb with underground rootstocks. Its leaves are narrowed, long and linear with base sheathing. The flowers are golden yellow, about 1 cm. across in small racemes. Roots are long, whitish or yellowish grey; externally the rootstock is yellowish brown.

The roots are used for treatment of general debility, jaundice, colic and are good aphrodite. The roots have good hepatoprotective action.
