Native Range: It is native to China, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Thailand where it is found in open grasslands.

Kaempferia rotunda is a spicy plant. Their leaves grow to about 2ft tall. Their leaves are graceful and the petioles tightly clasp and overlap each other at the base giving the impression of a stem. Their leaves mottled on the surface and red/maroon/purple at the back. Flowers emerge in early spring before the leaves.

This plant is boiled and its oil is used to treat itch. It has antioxidant effects that is sure in recent researches, and also it has anti-cancer effects.
