Bitterroot Restoration

Lagerstroemia speciosa is a small to medium-sized tree growing to 20 m tall, with smooth, flaky bark. Leaves are deciduous, oval to elliptic, 8-15 cm long and 3-7 cm broad, with an acute apex.

Lagenaria siceraria is a vine grown for its fruit, which can either be harvested young and used as a vegetable, or harvested mature, dried, and used as a bottle, utensil, or pipe. The fresh fruit has a light green smooth skin and a white flesh.

The Lablab purpureus grows as a vine, producing purple flowers and striking electric-purple coloured seed pods. It is a good choice for a quick screen on a trellis or fence.

Kalanchoe pinnata is distinctive for the profusion of miniature plantlets that form on the margins of its leaves, a trait it has in common with the other members of the Bryophyllum section of the Kalanchoe genus.

Kaempferia rotunda is a spicy plant. Their leaves grow to about 2ft tall. Their leaves are graceful and the petioles tightly clasp and overlap each other at the base giving the impression of a stem.

This plant has thick rounded leaves that lay flat on the ground. New leaves start growing in mid spring from the small dormant rhizomes. In summer, one or two flowers are produced successively from the centre of the growing tip.

Justicia gendarussa is an erect, branched, smooth undershrub 0.8-1.5 m tall. Their leaves are lance-shaped, 7-14 cm long, 1-2.5 cm wide, and pointed at the ends.

Jatropha gossypifolia is erect shrub or small tree to 4 m high, deciduous in dry conditions. Stems hairy, non-woody. Their leaves initially purplish but green when mature, sticky, 5.5–14 cm long, 7.5–12.5 cm wide, rounded in outline, leaf stalks 4.5–11.5 cm long.

Jatropha curcas is a poisonous, semi-evergreen shrub or small tree, reaching a height of 6 m (20 ft). It is resistant to a high degree of aridity, allowing it to be grown in deserts.

Jasminum sambac is an evergreen vine or shrub reaching up to 1-3 m tall. Their leaves are ovate, 4-12.5 cm long and 2-7.5 cm broad. The phyllotaxy is opposite or in whorls of three, simple (not pinnate, like most other jasmines).
