A wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. They are a normal part of the aging process of skin. However, there are many ways to help improve the appearance of wrinkled skin, and to help prevent further wrinkling. Most people choose to rely on expensive facial creams and skin treatments, but there are simple, natural and cheap methods that have been proven effective. One of them is to use certain herbs, including echinacea, comfrey and aloe vera.

Echinacea is rich in compounds that help to prevent the destruction of collagen in the skin, which is a common factor in wrinkles. And according to James Duke, author of The Green Pharmacy Guide to Healing Foods, recent studies have shown that antioxidant protection, such as echinacea, helps to protect against sun damage and collagen, can also help to prevent sun damaged skin, which often leads to wrinkling of the skin.

Comfrey has been used for many years to help with skin health. Comfrey helps to hydrate skin, and dehydration of the skin is a common factor in wrinkles. It can be used in topical forms, such as using the tea as a facial rinse. It can also be taken in supplemental form or used in tincture to add to juice, tea or water.

It is a well established fact that Cleopatra would massage aloe vera gel into her skin daily, and many skin care products proudly declare the fact they contain aloe vera in them.

Aloe vera is often used in skin moisturizers that are used for anti-aging effects. Some medical professionals now suggest applying fresh aloe vera to the skin to help prevent, as well as treat, wrinkles.

Although these herbs can be very beneficial in helping to treat, and sometimes prevent wrinkles, they should never be used to replace proper skin care. They should only be used in addition to a proper skin regimen, which should focus on keeping the skin hydrated and always using protection when exposed to the sun.
